Abstract: With the secondary development of oil field data, the thick and large high-grade industrial uranium ore body was obtained in the lower Cretaceous Saihan Formation in Naomugen depression of Erlian Basin. Objectives In order to study the characteristics of uranium ore, the geological conditions of uranium mineralization, the key ore-controlling factors and ore-forming potential. Methods The comprehensive research methods included the field investigation and drilling verification, indoor analysis of rock and ore identification, electron probe and element geochemistry. Results The results showed that, (1) Three layers of uranium mineralized bodies were revealed. Uranium ore occurred in the suspended gray sand bodies. This work preliminarily revealed the scale of uranium ore belt with nearly 7 km long. (2) The basic characteristics of uranium ore were roughly understood. The granularity of uranium ore was coarse and the rock was loose. Uranium minerals were mainly associated with pyrite, titanium-bearing minerals and clay minerals. The enrichment of associated elements was closely related to the late fluid mineralization, such as Pb, Zn, Ni, Co, V, Mo, Cd, Re, etc. (3) The favorable geological conditions for uranium mineralization in the Beiciwa area were preliminarily sorted out. Uranium sources were well supplied. Sedimentary sand bodies from fan deltas and braided channels provided ideal uranium reservoirs. Regional tectonic inversion and NE-trending and NW-trending faults constrained the uranium mineralization process. Organic carbon and pyrite were the important reduction media. The favorable replenishment-runoff-drainage system and the paleoclimate which changed from humid to arid provided the possibility for uranium mineralization. Conclusions The key ore-controlling factors and uranium metallogenic potential of Naomugen Depression in Erlian Basin were discussed based on metallogenic geological conditions and radon anomaly. The research results can provide reference for discussion on uranium mineralization potential in Naomugen Depression of Erlian Basin.
