Research progress on earth system science

Abstract：The paper introduced the concept of earth system science, pointed out the need of mankind's society and the demand for practice, theories of full development of each branch of geosciences and system science, support of technology development the space-observation and information science techniques contribute to the birth and development of earth system science during more than 40 years and outlined the study state at home and abroad of earth system science in detail.Finally, it stated the development future trend of earth system science in china.
