Abstract：Gao Guanjie was a famous engineer and mining expert in Shanxi during the Min-guo period, and served as the engineering expert of Shanxi provincial department of construction, director of exploration department and director of Tongguan coalmine, etc.During his tenure, he did a survey of Shanxi's mineral resources, explored and surveyed the geology of Tongguan coalfield, thus offered a scientific basis for coal exploration in Shanxi and Tongguan.As the director of Tonguan coal mine, because of the situation of insufficient funds and lack of equipment, he led the mineworkers drill new wells and restore old wells, introduced advanced western mining technology and business management system, which finally increased the capital of Tongguan coal mine from 750 000 to 2 000 000 in 1944, while the coal output from 20 000 tons to 179 000 tons in 1944.Gao and Tongguan coal mine has made outstanding contributions to easing the coal famine during the war period.
