Abstract: As a two-dimensional carbon material, graphene will be widely applied in future due to its excellent mechanical ,electrical, optical property, etc. There are a lot of coal resources in China, which are rich in graphene-like strutures aromatic sheet layer, the development of the coal based graphene can become a new industry. In this paper, the raw materials, preparation methods and application fields of coal based graphene were reviewed. It was considered that anthracite, coal tar pitch and humic acid could be used as raw materials for the preparation of coal based graphene; The commonly preparation methods of coal based graphene could be divided into Hummers method, chemical vapor deposition method,arc discharge method and template method, which could be taken as references in the selection of raw materials and preparation methods, technology applicability and maturity are different; Coal based graphene could be used in supercapacitors, lithiumion batteries and catalysis and other fields.
