Applications of 3D laser scanning technology in the extraction of vegetation parameters

Abstract: Vegetation parameters are important indicators reflecting vegetation growth information. Three-dimensional laser scanning technology was used to obtain data from the vegetation amorpha in the test area, and point cloud data was used to construct a three-dimensional model. And scans plants of experimental zone , then extracts plant height, crown width, crown height, volume based on the point cloud data.Comparing with the manual measurement method, the feasibility of the application of three-dimensional laser scanning measurement technology in extracting the growth parameters of amorpha fruticosa was discussed. The research results show that the error of three-dimensional laser scanning measurement technology was less than that of the artificial measurement of plant height and crown width. Complex correlation coefficient was greater than 95% is degree of confidence,3D laser scanning technology could completely replace the manual measurement method for the extraction of the growth parameters of amorpha fruticosa in theory. However,due to the influences of the instrument itself and the external environment, the integrity and stability of parameter extraction needed to be improved. The results of this study could provide a monitoring method for the three-dimensional modeling of vegetation(especially shrub vegetation) and non-destructive vegetation monitoring,which was of great significance for plant digitization.
