Productivity characteristics and influencing factors of coalbed methane wells in Yuw-ang block of Laochang mining area in eastern Yunnan and western Guizhou provinces

Abstract:In order to study the main factors that influence the productivity of coalbed methane wells in multiseam development area, taking Yuwang block of Laochang mining area in eastern Yunnan and western Guizhou provinces as the research area, the characteristics of gas and water production of coalbed methane wells were studied based on the geological data in the area, and the key factors affecting the productivity of CBM wells were revealed, then the preliminary suggestion of CBM drainage systems were put forward. The results showed that the number of low -yielding CBM wells in Yuwang block accounted for 73% of the total CBM wells. The main factors affecting gas well productivity included geological factors and drainage factors. Geological factors included in-situ stress and permeability, and drainage factors included water production rate and well shutdown times. The research suggested that coalbed methane exploration and development should be carried out inlocations or sections with medium-low in-situ stress and high permeability in this area. In the initial stage of CBM well drainage, the daily water amount should be controlled within 1.5~3 m3/d. After gas production started, the daily water amount should be controlled within 1~1.8 m3/d, and the number of shutdowns should be reduced throughout the drainage process
