Abstract:In order to study the strength properties of saturated coarse-grain sandstone under low temperatures, taking the frozen auxiliary shaft of Erdos in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region as the engineering background, the saturated coarse sandstone of the bedrock segment of the elevation-500 m to-700 m was tested with uniaxial compression tests at normal temperature 20 ℃ and at low temperatures (-10, -15, -20, -30 ℃) .The influence of low temperature on the uniaxial compressive strength, elastic modulus and poisson's ratio of saturated coarse sandstone and their failure modes were studied. The results showed that, with the decrease of the temperature, the elastic modulus and uniaxial compressive strength of low temperature saturated coarse sandstone were increasing, and the Poisson's ratio was decreasing. There were two kinds of compression failure modes of low temperature saturated coarse sandstone, i. e. column splitting failure and shear failure of single oblique section with split fracture. The conclusions provides some references for studying rock mechanics and the construction and design for freezing shafts of coal mines.
