Abstract：According to the newly-launched College English Teaching Guide, it is emphasized that college English teaching should coordinate with the goals of universities and educational purpose of departments, as well as the students' demands on academic and occupational developments. However, problems still exist in college English teaching in agricultural universities in Henan: duplicate content, divorce between students' professional demands and real job requirements, and curriculum setting of EGP ( English for General Purpose) and general education. Based on a thorough study of national policy, the provincial conditions of Henan, and the need analysis, the direction of college English teaching reform in agricultural universities in Henan should be accorded with the demands of cultivating elites in agriculture.Therefore, ESP ( English for Specific Purposes) should be highlighted on the foundation of EGP in agricultural universities.
