Abstract：The acceptance of The Golden Lotus is one of the major focuses of studies in the academy.From the perspective of aesthetic acceptance, we studied Yuan Hongdao, Yuan Zhongdao and other people's acceptance of The Golden Lotus before Lu Xun's Brief History of Chinese Fiction was published in1924, which were mainly about the following aspects: various speculation of the author, strong and sincere compliments or slander, and criticisms. Since its publication, The Golden Lotus has received both compliments for being a great realistic novel and criticism for being pornographic, however, it is certain that The Golden Lotus triggered a significant study in the 20 th century.
