Abstract：Henry, Wadsworth Longfellow is one of the most popular American poet in the history of literature. Longfellow's literary works are deeply influenced by German literature, especially Goethe's works. The reason why Longfellow accepted and loved Goethe was that he recognized the value of Goethe's writing, besides, Goethe inspired Longfellow with richer spiritual connotation. With Goethe's enlightening, Longfellow achieved unique awareness of World Literature vision and Comparative Literature awareness for the independent development of American literature, at the same time, Longfellow provided a vast space and a perfect reference for the American literature.
