Abstract：Tolstoy's early works on wars were mainly based on his actual experiences in the war, in which he described an eternal and true picture of war, exposed the truth of war, accused wars of destroying the ecological environment, the lives and the mankind's spirits, revealed the tragic nature of war.Tolstoy pointed out that the mankind's greedy pursuit to materials led to wars;soldiers in a war killed each other though they did not hate each other;Tolstoy proposed that we should control passion reasonably instead of destroying each other.The works reflect the writer's serious thinking and inteusive study on the problems of war, the works also embodies the writer's respects to the mankind's lives and the great humanistic emotions.Today, Tolstoy's thoughts are of great importance for promoting ecological protection and building harmonious society.
