Axial compression experiment of square CFST short columns constrained bybars through perforated stiffeners

Abstract:In order to make up for the deficiency of square CFST with only stiffeners or bars the CFST short columns with bars through the perforated rib was put forward. One square CFST short column with only stiffeners and Five CFST short columns with bars through the perforated rib were made to carry out the axial compression test. The failure process failure form bearing capacity ductility and strain curves of stiffeners bars and steel tubes were compared and analyzed. The test results showed that the increase of the diameter of the bar was limited to the increase of the ultimate bearing capacity but it could improve the ductility With the reduction of the longitudinal spacing of bars the ultimate load and ductility of specimens were greatly improved with the increase of the confinement on the core concrete. The setting of bars through the perforated rib could strengthen the restraining effect on the core concrete improve the buckling strength of the tube delay the bondslip and deformation between the tube and the concrete and improve the ultimate axial bearing capacity and the ductility of CFST short columns with ribs. The experimental results had important reference value for the research and engineering application of CFST short columns with bars through the perforated rib.
