Abstract: Objectives The objective of this study was to investigate the compressive properties, age-dependent compressive behavior, and compressive constitutive relationship of sleeve grouting materials for steel bar connections.  Methods Compression tests and finite element analyses were performed on grouting material specimens with different ages and shapes.  Results The results showed that, at 3 days, the compressive strengths of standard and cylindrical specimens reached 70% and 63% of their respective 28-day compressive strengths, indicating that the compressive strength of both specimens increased rapidly within the first 3 days. However, as the age increased from 3 to 28 days, the growth rate of compressive strength decreased significantly, and the final compressive strength increased by only approximately 30% compared with that at 3 days. The stress-strain curves obtained from axial compression tests effectively reflected the age-dependent stress-strain behavior of the grouting material, A significant difference existed between the peak stress and the compressive strength of the standard specimens, and the elastic modulus gradually increased with age. The peak strain increased particularly rapidly at early ages. Based on the measured stress-strain values, a fitted constitutive model and a statistical damage constitutive model were established. The established constitutive models were simulated and analyzed using finite element software. The simulation results were highly consistent with the experimental results, verifying the feasibility and reliability of the established constitutive models.  Conclusions The results revealed the age-dependent variation of the compressive properties of sleeve grouting materials. The establishment of constitutive models and verification of their reliability provide important theoretical foundations and practical guidance for the design, numerical simulation, application, and optimization of grouting materials in steel bar connection engineering.
