Abstract：With the rapid development of cultural tourism industry, ancient village tourism with huge market potential has become the future tendency of Chinese tourism development. However, the tourism resource of ancient village has received less protection ( media visibility) and scholars' attention of study than it deserves. This paper explores the reasons for this phenomenon from the geographical, historical, cultural, and economic perspectives, and analyzes the spatial distribution of ancient villages with the hope of providing scientific evidence for government policies of developing ancient village tourism.
