Study on the influence mechanism of fine water mist particle size on gas explosion characteristics in pipe

Abstract:In order to study the influence mechanism of fine water mist with different particle sizes on the gas explosion characteristics in the pipe the experiments combined with numerical calculations were conducted to analyze. The results showed that the 5 μm fine water mist has a good inhibitory effect on gas explosion which could effectively reduce the flame temperature flame propagation velocity and maximum overpressure value during explosion but the 45μm and 160μm fine water mist can play a certain role in promoting the gas explosion in the pipeline. The reason is that the small particle size fine water mist can completely evaporate in the surface of the flame and the heat absorption and oxygen barrier effect produced by the evaporation of the mist droplets reduced the combustion reaction rate thereby the gas explosion was suppressed .The large particle size mist droplets could not be completely vaporized in the surface of the flame and caused turbulence enhancement effect in the flow field this made the explosion intensity increase. The results had a good theoretical guidance for the design of fine water mist explosion suppression system.
