Abstract：Shanxi people's fight for coal mines in late Qing dynasty is a milestone of Chinese people's resuming economic rights.After introducing its background information, this paper discuses how Shanxi people at all levels banded together to safeguard national sovereignty driven by the fight for coal mines, and later succeeded in smashing British Hope's scheme of plunder of Shanxi coal mines.The founding of "Safeguard Shanxi" Company laid a foundation for Shanxi province's development of coal industry, and turned over a new page on the course of modern Chinese industry history.
