Abstract：Since the famous struggle between CHU His and LU Jiu-Yuan, the debate between "pursuing virtue" and "seeking for knowledge" has never stopped.The reason for the great attention lies in that this struggle was not only the first theoretical awareness of complete methodology in Chinese philosophy, and also the first mature and rational debate of thoughts and methods.The answers to this issue involve the ideals of how to conduct oneself and learn.Whether you choose the first one or the second one, you will be confronted with a paradox.Given that, the author analyzes the origin of the struggle firstly, then puts forward an objective analysis of previous researches' views and opinions, and at last the author attempts to propose some perspectives with the purpose of providing some beneficial inspiration for our social construction.
