Abstract：The novel A Highly Respected Elder Donkey describes the politics, society and people of Huaichuan area in the turbulent period of late Qing Dynasty to the founding of new China. It is full of sense of history and also with striking regional cultural characteristics. This paper studies the writing of regional culture in this novel from three perspectives and affirms its significance in enriching the regional culture writing in Henan and promoting the cultural spirit of the Central Plain. In addition, this paper points out the limitations in this novel and discusses some issues related with the writing of regional culture.
