Abstract：The novel A Sound Sleep at Night by Xi Tongfa tells a story of trust crisis resulted from mobile phone. The culture signifier of mobile phone is modern science and technology, which has become the impetus for people's mental corruption unfortunately. Employing metaphor, this novel reveals human trust crisis in the age of science and technology, living condition of nobodies at the bottom of society in particular. Mobile phone nightmare suggests that people are being kidnapped by modern technology, and the phone freak is compared to opium addicts of the late Qing dynasty in a certain sense, with the implication that mental oppression of material pursuit is miserable for modern people. The novel re-examines the side effects of phone addiction on modern people's life critically.
