Research on cutting performance of spiral drum of thin coal seam shearer

Abstract:In order to study the influence of spiral drum’s structure on the cutting performance of thin coal seam shearer, a calculation software of shearer load was compiled based on MATLAB and VB , and the load of spiral drum, cutting resistance moment and cutting power in the cutting process were analyzed. The distributions of cutting resistance moment and cutting power of A and B type spiral drums were obtained. Through the simulations of shearer rigid-flexible coupling model with flexible rocker shell, planetary frame and planetary axis, the stress level of corresponding structural parts was obtained. It was found that the cutting resistance moment and power consumption of type A spiral drum were greater than those of type B spiral drum. The stress state of key parts of MG400/951-WD shearer with type B spiral drum could be significantly improved. The analytical method was verified by the production test of shearer. The research results could provide a reference for the compre-hensive evaluation of the cutting performance of the spiral drum and the selection of motion parameters.
