Whether men and women have the same reasonA text interpretation of Plato’sThe Republic

Abstract：Plato was the first philosopher in the history of western thoughts to put forward the idea of equality between men and women. His idea of equality between men and women is elaborated from the four perspectives of education equality, job equality, marriage and private property equality. For his idea of equality between men and women, academic circles have quite different views. Based on his bookThe Republic, this paper will analyze his idea of equality between men and women to explore whether men and women have the same reason. The viewpoints of denying this idea is refuted after analyzing and comparing different versions of the original works. Finally, the theoretical and practical significance of this idea is put forward. It provides new perspective and thinking for gaining rational position for women and achieving the equality between men and women.
