A review of the studies on Plato’s aesthetic thoughts

Abstract：Plato is a pioneer and representative of Western idealism. Involving political science, education, aesthetics and many other fields, his theoretical system is comprehensive and profound, with philo-sophy as the leading one. As for the field of aesthetics, Plato's thoughts not only play a pivotal role in the development of Western aesthetics, but also have a profound influence on the discourse construction of contemporary Chinese literary aesthetics. There are numerous studies on Plato's aesthetic thoughts. This paper will review the relevant domestic studies from the three perspectives of “inherent tradition”, “new clevelopment ”and“methodological implication”.It is hoped to help the re-understanding of Plato's aesthetic thoughts and provide reference value for the re-discussion of and research on Plato's aesthetic thoughts in the academic circles in the future.
