Abstract：Diary of a Bad Year is a literary text which blends essay and fiction, argumentative and narrative. It does not merely include multiple mutual references and communications of different genres, which helps to virtually deconstruct grand narrative mode in Western literary tradition and build up a positive stance of counter-discourse at the same time; but it is also filled with public intellectuals' ( J. M. Coetzee and “his man”——Mr. C) scrutiny of social injustice and fierce lashing against rational discourse dominated by the Western mainstream ideology, which reflects a deep sense of responsibility and profound historical consciousness and reveals their intention to overturn a single historical narrative and deterinination to reconstruct diversified heterogeneous historical narrative.
