Abstract：Among all the rituals of folk funerals described in The Golden Lotus, those with the intervention of Buddist monks and Taoist priests receive great attention. The description of monks and Taoist priests in folk funerals, as an essential component of The Golden Lotus, is of special text value, which shows the author's conception of Buddhism and Taoism. The scales of religious rituals in folk funerals reveal the fate of Ximen Qing's whole family, the narratives of these religious funerals illustrate the relationship between characters, and the arrangements of the rituals regulate the narrative rhythm. It is concluded that the prevalent extravagance and religious rituals are very popular in funerals rituals, and the chaos of religious funeral rituals are increasingly frequent.
