Peeking: an analysis of its artistic value as a narrative perspective A case study of Jin Ping Mei

Abstract：As a kind of behavior with strong purpose, “peeking”often appears in narrative works.Through combing and analyzing the plot or scene of “peeking”in the narrative works, this paper probes into its role in the narrative of the novel and the portrayal of the characters, thus further exploring the artistic value of“peeking”as a narrative perspective. The role of“peeking”as a narrative perspective reaches to a very high level in Jin Ping Mei. From classical novels to new period novels, “peeking”, as a narrative perspective, has experienced a long process of development, having a remarkable influence on narrative space and character image.
